I saw the Eurogamer comparison video, and Kassandra seemed better at subtlety but worse at intense emotions, and vice versa for Alexios. Some of Alexios's lines sounded too overdone, and some of Kassandra's sounded way too bland/reserved.
Ultimately, the choise between playing as Kassandra or Alexios in Assassin's Creed Odyssey comes down to personal preference. Each player can make their own decision, but if they wish to play the canonical protagonist and witness Alexios' performance as Deimos, then they should choose Kassandra.

Most Players Still Chose Alexios. Even though Kassandra is the canon choice and the more pleasing character in cutscenes, the majority of the players in Odyssey still chose Alexios. What is the main difference between Alexios and Kassandra ? The only notable difference is the change in the model of the two characters when you see flashback scenes. Note that in terms of romance, you will have absolutely the same options / scenarios that will be available to you, regardless of the sex you choose at the beginning of the game.
Kassandra could be Deimos, but Alexios' brute power and overall attitude make him better suited for the role. His character comes off as angrier than Kassandra, which is exactly how Deimos should be portrayed. Alexios might appear stronger, but his directness and fury are the same motives we'd expect would drive Deimos to do the things he does
